Geranium Review: A Culinary Masterpiece in Copenhagen

It’s not every day that you dine at a former #1 restaurant in the world. Geranium was awarded the #1 spot on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list in 2022 and awarded 3 Michelin Stars, Geranium in Copenhagen is highly acclaimed.

We’ve eaten at the best of the best, so we had to try it out. Here’s our honest review. Is Geranium worth it? Read on and find out.

The Concept

Geranium is the brainchild of chef Rasmus Kofoed and Søren Ledet, the restaurant focuses entirely on meat-free, seasonally driven tasting menus. Vegetables, herbs, and seafood the stars of the show. The philosophy is rooted in purity, elegance, and the Danish landscape. Everything feels intentional, minimal, and deeply considered.

The Space

Located on the 8th floor of a soccer stadium (yes, really), the setting is surprisingly serene. You’re high above the city, with panoramic views over Fælledparken, a lush widespread park. The dining room is light, airy, and impeccably Scandinavian. It features lots of blonde wood, soft textures, and calming neutrals. An open kitchen offers a front-row seat to the meticulous choreography of the chefs. Everything about the design is balanced luxury. There are no flashy chandeliers or theatrics here. The visuals are clean lines, natural light, and a sense of spaciousness that lets the food speak for itself.

The Food

The seasonal tasting menu features around 20 courses and unfolds over three hours. It feels more like a symphony than a meal.

Standouts from our meal included:

  • Oysters in crispy algae, cucumber, dill & aquavit

  • Kohlrabi with sol, raw apple, pumpkin seed oil & caviar

  • Scallops & black currant

  • Pike perch with king crab, beach plants & horseradish

  • Chocolate with Jerusalem artichoke, prunes & grain coffee

Each dish was as visually stunning as it was delicious. Think edible art served on hand-crafted ceramics. Desserts leaned savory-sweet, often incorporating herbs and fermented elements in a way that felt uniquely Geranium. Even the bread course (Demeter small buns with seeds & cep butter, bread pancake, and crunchy grains) was memorable.

The drinks were also outstanding. We opted for cocktails and these complemented the meal quite nicely.

The Service & Experience

This is another where Geranium shines. The staff is formal but warm, incredibly well-versed in every ingredient and technique, and extremely attentitive. Each course was delivered with just enough context to elevate your appreciation without interrupting the flow of the meal.

One special touch? The tour. Between courses, you’re invited to step into the pristine kitchen and meet the chefs, and get a detailed view of wine cellar, test kitchen, and other behind-the-scene spaces. The view of the stadium is spectacular and feels very other worldly combined with the fine dining aesthetic.

The Price & If It’s Worth It

As you might expect, this level of fine dining comes at a cost. The menu is currently priced at 4,000+ DKK per person, around $650 USD, before beverages. Wine pairings or juice pairings add significantly to that total. It’s an investment.

So, is it worth it? We’d say yes. Geranium is not just a restaurant—it’s a destination. If you’re passionate about food, especially at the highest levels, this is one of those once-in-a-lifetime experiences that actually delivers. The execution is flawless, the hospitality is genuine, and the food is unforgettable. To be 100% honest, we were skeptical of all its acclaim but we were very pleasantly surprised.

Final Thoughts

In a word, Geranium is excellent. We highly recommend it if you are a lover of fine dining.
