An Honest Review of Amazon’s Top 3 Lip Stains

Lip stains promise long-lasting color with minimal transfer, but do they really deliver? We decided to find out. For weeks, we’ve testing multiple colors of Amazon’s current top three best-sellers:

  1. The viral Wonderskin Wonder Blading stain you’ve probably seen your favorite influencer use

  2. Nooni Lip Oil, the latest sensation in K-beauty

  3. Covergirl Outlast Lipstain, which literally looks and feels like a scented marker

From bold reds to everyday nudes, we wore each through coffee runs, meals, and hours of talking to see how they held up in real life. Here’s what we learned.

1. Wonderskin Wonder Blading Lip Stain Peel Off Masque

Wonderskin is definitely the most known lip stain these days, known for its all-day wear. This peel-off stain creates rich, even color that survives everything from drinking to eating to accidental lip biting. We tried it in several shades and found that the pigment payoff is strong across the board, from deeper berries to natural pinks.

The process is a little extra: apply the bright blue liquid, let it set, and then wipe away the top layer to reveal the stain underneath. It can be a bit messy if you’re not careful, but once it’s on, it’s not going anywhere. The matte finish feels lightweight on the lips, though if you have dryness, you’ll want to top it with a balm which can dampen the lasting effects.

Pros: Unmatched longevity, great shade range, transfer-proof

Cons: Slightly messy application, not the most hydrating, may wear off if paired with lip balm

Price: The most expensive of the three, we paid $22. We do find that it’s a decent amount of product and is still lasting us through many applications

2. Nooni Korean Lip Oil

This was the pleasant surprise of the lineup. At first swipe, it feels like a luxurious gloss. It’s smooth, non-sticky, and cushiony. But after a few minutes, the gloss settles into a beautiful color that lasts for hours. We tested multiple shades and found that the appleginseng hue was especially flattering, giving a fresh, bright-but-not-too-bright flush.

This lip oil the only one of the three that’s genuinely hydrating, making it a standout for anyone with chronically dry lips. The formula’s lightweight oil base keeps lips comfortable all day while still delivering bulletproof staying power. And we truly mean bulletproof. The very first day we tried this we applied it a couple of times throughout the day, not realizing just how buildable the color was, and the color lasted overnight into the next day. Needless to say, we were very impressed.

Pros: Hydrating, comfortable to wear, all-in-one easy application, buildable color, crazy long lasting

Cons: Less precise applicator, the lip gloss nature means it doesn’t layer with other products, won’t immediately know the color it will settle into

Price: We paid $12, which makes sense given the longevity but feels a bit high for a pretty small product size

3. COVERGIRL Outlast Lipstain

COVERGIRL’s lip stain is the easiest to apply and is basically a scented marker for your lips. The felt-tip design allows for precision, so you can line and fill in your lips without worrying about uneven edges. We tried several colors and found that the lighter, pinker tones look fresh and natural, while darker shades risk veering into accidental “wine stain” territory if applied too heavily. More specifically, we liked shades like Admire and Sugey Girl, but even Natural Blush looked a little too much like the wrong type of stain. Though, of course, if you have darker lips, this shade may work better for you than for us!

It dries instantly, lasts through light meals, and doesn’t smudge. While it’s not as hydrating as the Nooni, it’s lightweight and perfect for quick, on-the-go application.

Pros: Beginner-friendly, quick to apply, affordable, long-lasting for the price

Cons: Darker shades can look patchy, can be drying

Price: We paid $8, which honestly feels like a steal

The Verdict

All three have their strengths, and your best choice comes down to how you prioritize longevity, hydration, and convenience. If you can, we recommend grabbing two different styles so you’re covered for any occasion. But if we had to pick just one… it’s hard, but honestly the Nooni Lip Oil is the one we keep reaching for.

If you love a long-lasting lip you don’t have to worry about, definitely consider trying out a lip stain.
