Is Soho House Worth It? If You’re In One Of These Three Groups, Yes

For those unfamiliar, Soho House is not just a members' club. It's a global phenomenon, a haven for creatives, and a hub for luxury. It is incredibly exclusive, incredibly popular, and incredibly expensive. We’ve been members for years and definitely have thoughts. Is the experience worth the thousands of dollars in membership fees? For most, the answer is likely no. But if you’re in one of these three groups, then we think Soho House may be worth it for you.

📷 One quick note: Photography is not allowed in Soho House, so beware of what you see online from other reviewers! If you want to get a sneak peak you can always check out their website. Who should get a Soho House membership

1. Multi-city dwellers or frequent travelers: Featuring stylishly designed spaces and a plethora of amenities including spas, gyms, and rooftop pools, every aspect of the Soho House experience is curated. And one of the best parts is its global footprint. If you live across cities or are a frequent traveler, Soho House is a guaranteed way to have a home-away-from-home. Our favorite locations are Soho Beach House in Miami, DUMBO House in New York, and White City House in London, but we’ve taken advantage of Houses across the US and Europe and have never been disappointed.

2. Parents of young children looking to network: Most people don’t know that Soho House is extremely family friendly. You can get your children their own memberships and the prices are very reasonable up until 5 years of age. Many Soho House locations even have a Teeny House, a designated play space with free adult supervision. And there are kid-friendly hours at some houses as well! Soho Beach House designates the morning (before noon) as kid-friendly pool time and you’ll see many families taking advantage of this every weekend. It’s a fun and safe environment for kids and a luxury haven for parents, which is a super rare combination.

3. Prestige players: Being a Soho House member is an instant status symbol. If being on the scene matters to you, Soho House may be a good fit. From networking events to exclusive screenings and workshops, the opportunities for meaningful connections are endless. Plus, it’s a great place to host work meetings and client dinners (or even dates!) when you want to make an impression.

How do you get a membership?

Right off the bat, it’s important to know that Soho House is geared towards creatives. This creativity can be expressed either in your work or in your personal life, but if you don’t have a creative angle to your story, it’s going to be difficult to get accepted.

The application can take a long time - even years. There is almost always a waitlist and at different times, they’ve actually paused applications in the most popular Houses due to demand being too high. Consider applying to a less popular House if you want to get an answer more quickly!

So, what do you need to do for the application? It’s actually pretty straightforward. You’ll need to provide personal details about your background (like your career and creative interests) along with a photo. You’ll also be asked for references. Technically it’s not required, but we strongly encourage you to list two current members who can vouch for you if possible!

How expensive is the membership?

You have a few different options on membership. You can opt for a Local House membership or a Global Access membership. There are also preferential prices depending on your age. If you’re under 27, you’ll get a special price.

Global Access gives you membership to all Houses and is your most expensive option. This can vary, but you should expect to pay around $5,000+ annually, plus a one-time joining fee (usually less than $1000). The variation comes from factors like what city you’re based in - definitely expect to pay more for cities like London or New York in particular.

If you don’t want to go for Global Access, you can get a single House-only membership. The prices vary but, for example, the Miami Pool House membership starts from $2,500+ annually. And again, the prices are discounted if you’re under 27. For Miami Pool House, the price comes down to about $1,325 for under-27 members.

If you’re considering a membership, we do recommend getting global access instead of being limited to one house. We’re biased since we frequently use the Miami, New York and London Houses, but even if we were in just one of those cities there are multiple houses that have different vibes and offerings. Miami has two Houses, New York has three Houses and London has ten Houses (plus many more nearby).

Final Thoughts

The value of these kinds of memberships is just a factor of how much use you’ll get out of them. Hopefully our perspective has been helpful, but the best way to decide if Soho House is worth it is to check it out for yourself. If you’re considering applying and don’t have a friend who is a member, we recommend booking a room at the hotel or reserving a table at one of the restaurants to get a glimpse.

Is Soho House worth it? It is for us, but ultimately that's for you to decide.
